Unusual accident on Highway 1 sends woman to hospital with serious injuries

A woman was sent to the hospital early Saturday with serious injuries after she was hit while on Highway 1 eastbound on the Kensington ramp.

Burnaby RCMP said he attended the scene around 4 am Saturday morning. A driver and passenger in a blue 2010 Audi A5 temporarily stopped on the side of the road when the vehicle was hit by a driver in a black 2009 Acura CSX.

The Acura then hit the woman as she was on the road after getting out of the Audi. The 26-year-old passenger was taken to hospital with what police said could be “life-altering injuries”.

“Our investigators have spoken with the parties involved, but are looking for witnesses who may have observed the events leading up to the collision,” said Cpl. Alexa Hodgins from Burnaby RCMP.

The Acura driver remained at the scene. Investigators are trying to determine whether speed, driver disability and road conditions are factors in the collision.

Police ask all witnesses with panel camera footage to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
