‘There is no debate in my eyes’ – John Higgins says Ronnie O’Sullivan is the snooker GOAT

John Higgins said there is no debate that Ronnie O’Sullivan is the greatest pool player of all time.

O’Sullivan beat Higgins 17-11 to advance to his eighth Crucible final, where he will face Judd Trump.

A win for O’Sullivan would put him tied with Stephen Hendry for seven world titles.

O’Sullivan is widely regarded as the biggest to take a cue, but some claim that because Hendry has more world titles, he ranks higher.

An O’Sullivan win would end the debate for many, but Higgins says it’s already clear that the current No. 1 in the world is the snooker GOAT.

“I think it would cement his place in everyone’s eyes,” Higgins told Eurosport of O’Sullivan.

“I think a lot of people would still keep Stephen having all seven world championships and he’s the biggest, but there’s no debate in my eyes.”

O’Sullivan faces Trump on Sunday and Monday after his epic win over Mark Williams, and Higgins expects a classic Crucible match.

“Ronnie is going to have a tough fight,” Higgins said. “Judd is going into his second.

“He had that unbelievable match against Mark Williams and he’s going to be as high as a kite, so it must be a great occasion for snooker.”

The loss to Higgins ended an impressive and frustrating season for the Scotsman. He won the Championship League but tasted defeat in five finals and feels his game is just below the main draw at the moment.

“I feel like I’m just one level below them,” Higgins said. “I didn’t win big titles, but I had some big moments.”
