Russian military cargo plane crashes and kills 4

MOSCOW (AP) – A Russian military cargo plane crashed on Friday, killing at least four crew and injuring several others, officials said.

The Il-76 heavy cargo plane crashed in the southwestern region of Ryazan. The Russian Defense Ministry said the plane suffered an engine problem that forced the crew to land on the ground.

The regional administration said four of its crew were killed and five others were injured when the plane crashed in a field on the outskirts of the city of Ryazan. Authorities said the wounded were hospitalized in serious condition.

The four-engine Il-76 was designed in the 1970s and served as the main heavy-lift aircraft for the Soviet and Russian air force. It has also been widely used by many countries around the world.
