Robbie McDaid transfer from Glentoran to Linfield FC confirmed

Glentoran forward Robbie McDaid is officially joining rivals Linfield later this month, confirmed Glens boss Mick McDermott.

Last month, Sunday Life revealed that Linfield had sent a letter to Glentoran announcing his intention to speak with McDaid about a pre-contract deal.

“Robbie has scored some vital goals for Glentoran in his five seasons here,” McDermott said in a club statement on Friday.

“Most notably, he played a key role in the success of the 2020 Irish Cup, scoring the winning goal in extra time. on our journey.

“He has certainly left great memories in the hearts of our fans. Robbie has decided to move forward at the end of his current contract and has informed us that he has agreed to Linfield FC’s terms. We wish Robbie the best in his future.”

The 25-year-old was banned from the first team at The Oval in April after it became clear he would not put pen to paper on a new deal with the East Belfast club.

Some suspected that the Omagh man might join his partner in England and play football there, but his move to the Windsor team was long overdue.

Burundi midfielder Gael Bigirimana and former Dundee United player Dillon Powers will also leave the Glens at the end of their contracts next week.
