CHICAGO (CBS) — Two CBS 2 legends received a special tribute Friday night.
Former CBS 2 anchor and reporter Derrick Blakley has been presented with the prestigious Silver Circle Award. The presentation was CBS 2’s Jim Williams, himself a nominee in 2018.
Blakley, a South Side native, spent 41 years in the television news and is known for his deep knowledge of the city. He joined CBS 2 in 2003, working as an anchor and reporter and later taking over as a political reporter. Blakley retired from CBS 2 in 2019.
Prior to joining CBS 2, Blakley also spent 16 years on NBC 5 and seven years as a Chicago-based correspondent for CBS News; London; and Bonn, West Germany.
His award highlights his numerous contributions to Chicago TV news over the decades.
Also honored was the late CBS 2 photojournalist Morris Jones.
Jones first joined CBS 2 in 1976. He has traveled the world – covering events such as Nelson Mandela’s presidential inauguration in South Africa alongside CBS 2 reporter John Davis in 1994.
Jones received the Silver Circle Award for her four-decade career on CBS 2 before passing away from cancer in 2016.
