Protester Shoots Flames Into the Air Near Sri Lankan Presidential Secretariat

A protester was seen shooting a fireball into the air on Galle Face Green in Colombo, near the Sri Lankan presidential secretariat, in the early hours of April 10. Protesters are calling for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa amid what the UNHCR called a “severe economic crisis” in the country. Footage recorded by Ranul Malaka shows people gathered on Colombo Main Road after midnight on April 10. Protests near the Old Parliament Building on Colombo Main Road, which houses the presidential secretariat, continued throughout the weekend. Local media reported on Monday that protesters occupying a space opposite the secretariat had dubbed it “Gota Go Village.” Credit: Ranul Malaka via Storyful
