Pilot approaching LAX reports sighting of person flying jetpack

A pilot preparing to land at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday afternoon alerted the control tower after spotting a person operating a jetpack.

The pilot made the call around 2:45 pm, when they were still about 15 minutes from the airport.

This is not the first time reports of a jetpack sighting in the area have been reported, leading to a statement released by the Federal Aviation Authority that read:

“An airline pilot reported seeing an object that may have looked like a jetpack 15 miles east of Los Angeles International Airport around 2:45 pm today (Thursday). The FAA worked closely with the FBI to investigate all reported jetpack sightings. So far, none of these sightings have been verified. A working theory is that pilots may have seen balloons.”
