Yorkshire brand Mother Hubbard’s is opening its latest store on the A38 Kingsbury Road in Erdington this Saturday (25th June). The new location, near the intersection with Burcote Road, hopes to lure customers with a very tempting offer – fish and chips for just 45p.

The chain’s first store was opened in Ingleby Road, Bradford, on May 3, 1972 by Stan and Hilda Ogden of Coronation Street, also known as Bernard Youens and Jean Alexander. And in your 50’sº year, is repeating opening day prices of just 45p for the first 1,000 customers.

The place uses Icelandic haddock and British potatoes for their fries. It also sells a variety of other fish options, including hot or spicy new fish and chips, grilled fish, and pieces of fish or chips. And chippy favorites like pies and pastries, fish cakes, sausages and breaded sausages.

Site manager Chris Thornton said: “It took us six months to open this site. The 45p offer is reversing the price to what it was fish and chips in 1972 and will be available to the first 1,000 customers.

“From other stores where we’ve done this, we expect customers to queue in the afternoon. The brand is doing really well.”
