Man falls from roof during drug raid as people watch in horror

A man suffered leg injuries after falling off a roof while trying to escape police officers. Horrified residents watched the events unfold on Thursday as North Wales Police (NWP) mounted a drug raid in central Rhyl.

Two male suspects attempted to flee an address on Kinmel Street when officers entered the building, reports North Wales Live. One was later arrested on suspicion of drug offences.

Officers brought in a fire department pickup to get to the roof, while colleagues used pliers to get into a side gate. Other officers stood guard at the back of the site. An air ambulance landed on playing fields in nearby Ffordd Las after one of the suspects fell from the roof. The helicopter was not needed as the man was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital in an emergency ambulance.

There was a strong police presence in the region.

The second man was later taken away after police searched the building. Agents remained in place to protect the site. Several witnesses reported seeing the man fall from the roof. One resident, who lives nearby, described how the police operation quickly escalated. “I was walking to work around 10 am and there was a police car around the corner,” she said. “Then all of a sudden there were more and more, I’ve never seen so many.

“I saw a man on top of the old Accent Insurance building. I heard that someone had fallen and the air ambulance arrived. What I saw didn’t come down, so the fire truck came with the crane. When he came down, he was taken away by the police.”

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it was called to Kinmel Street at 12:06 pm. He sent an emergency ambulance to the scene, where the crew was supported by colleagues from the Emergency Medical Recovery and Transfer Service in a Welsh air ambulance. “One person was taken by road to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan,” a spokesperson said.

North Wales Police said they had executed a drug warrant at the address. A spokesperson said: “After officers entered the building, two male suspects attempted to flee the scene via the roof. A man suffered leg injuries after falling from the roof while trying to evade police. Ambulance teams arrived at the scene and later transferred the man to the hospital.

“A search for the second suspect was successfully carried out and the man was arrested on suspicion of drug offences. Officers remained at the scene to secure the building.” To receive the latest news from across Wales, subscribe to our newsletters here.
