De Jong makes the feeling clear
Frenkie de Jong pledged his future to Barcelona before the Spanish giants put him up for sale as Manchester United looked to sign the midfielder.
The Spanish side are looking to part ways with the former Ajax star in the upcoming transfer window to raise funds due to ongoing financial problems, according to Goal. Barça shelled out £65m for the Dutch international three years ago but are willing to cash in on his valuable asset for a reduced price fee of £50m.
Several clubs have been put on alert, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, as a result, but the Red Devils are apparently in pole position to win the race for De Jong’s signature, given his previous relationship with United manager Erik ten. Hag, whose main priority is to add a midfielder in the summer.
It remains to be seen whether De Jong is willing to leave Camp Nou, however. But on several occasions he has spoken about how it has been a “dream” to play for Barca since he left Ajax.
