John Ramirez sent his rival flying out of the ring in a devastating knockout that put the super featherweight division on alert.
Undefeated Los Angeles prospect John Ramirez is nicknamed ‘Scrappy’, but there was nothing scrappy about his devastating win over Jan Salvatierra to claim the NABA super featherweight title.
Ramirez dropped Salvatierra from the ring headfirst with a sickening first-round knockout, with his right hand hitting the young Mexican’s chin.

Things could have been a lot worse if a ringside photographer hadn’t caught Salvatierra before the fighter landed on his head.
Salvatierra somehow managed to regain his feet and climbed back into the ring, but appeared to have a concussion and was unable to continue.
The 22-year-old drops to an 8-2 record, while the 25-year-old Ramirez climbed to 10-0 with his eighth knockout – with today’s win by far the most memorable.
“He made a mistake and he had to pay,” Ramirez said in the post-fight interview. “He wasn’t on my level.”
He immediately called out WBC super featherweight champion Jesse Rodriguez, saying, “I want to fight the best out there. I dont care. How can you be the best of you not face the best out there.”
Former WBA and WBC super lightweight world champion (interim) Regis Prograis was impressed by the knockout, tweeting, “He will be champion.”
