Florida lawmakers rescue 1-year-old girl, mother and grandmother from Orlando apartment fire

The baby and her mother were struggling to escape after a fire broke out at the Isles at East Millenia compound, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Officers responded to the scene shortly before 4:15 am and found the mother and baby on a third-floor balcony with flames erupting from the apartment, the press release said.

Representative William Puzynski climbed onto the second-floor balcony, took the baby from his mother and lowered her to other deputies on the floor, the video shows.

“Just before going up the building, Deputy Puzynski took off his heavy outer ballistic vest – which his camera is attached to – to make the climb easier. It’s an incredible twist of fate that the camera was able to capture what happened next.” said the statement.

An early morning fire ripped through an apartment complex Saturday in Orange County, Florida.
“When I got here, we saw the building totally engulfed. It was chaos everywhere,” Puzynski told CNN affiliate WKMG. After delivering the baby to his partners, Puzynsk was also helped, he told the news agency.

“Later, when mom came and found me, she actually gave me a hug, so it was gratifying,” he said. “It’s a different feeling. Some nights you go home and you don’t really know if it’s made a difference, but in situations like this you do.”

The baby’s mother and grandmother were rescued using a ladder, the sheriff’s office said. No casualties were reported and no lawmakers were injured in the fire, officials said.
