Family of Dakotah Earley, Man Shot During Heist in Lincoln Park, Updates His Condition

CHICAGO (CBS) — The man shot three times during a robbery in Lincoln Park on Friday says Dakotah Earley, 23, remains on life support and is still listed in critical condition on Sunday, according to the family’s GoFundMe.

He underwent two surgeries and has another scheduled for Saturday. Doctors believe more surgeries will be needed, but it is unclear when they will take place.

“We have NOT and will not lose hope or faith for Dakotah. Please continue to pray for him and the team working with him as well as the detectives,” the family said.

earley was walking on Wayne Avenue near Webster Avenue around 3am on Friday when a robber came out of hiding and pointed a gun at him. After handing the bag to the offender, Earley grabbed the gun and they both fell to the ground as they struggled to get the gun.

A second robber, also armed with a gun, ran; and as the victim was fighting the first thief, one of them can be heard demanding his phone password. Then the first robber shot the victim and took his cell phone.

As the victim was lying on the floor, the thief asked again for his password before shooting him a second time. After asking the victim for his password again, the victim tells him a few numbers before screaming in pain, and the thief shoots him a third time while he is still lying on the street.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to his back and a gunshot wound to his head – resulting in partial loss of his colon.

A source told CBS 2 that police located the suspect’s vehicle.

Earley’s attack was just one of eight in the Lincoln Park and Lake View areas in less than 48 hours.
