F1 Miami Grand Prix live scores, Daniel Ricciardo, Martin Brundle grid walk

McLaren’s dismal weekend went from bad to worse with one of their cars crashing in the second half of the Miami race. Daniel Ricciardo remains in contention. FOLLOW LIVE

Lando Norris’ 15-race streak ended after McLaren crashed on lap 40 of the Miami Grand Prix.

In another blow to the papaya team, Norris was forced to retire after making strong contact with Pierre Gasly at turn eight of the new track.

Norris got out of his car and appeared unharmed.

While it was a blow to McLaren’s weekend, the incident injected some much-needed drama into what had been a rather underwhelming race.

Several teams used the safety car as a pit opportunity for softs for the final 14 laps.

Verstappen had led the race from lap nine and established a seven-second lead over Charles Leclerc.

06:55 HAMILTON IS BEING CRAZY!

Lewis Hamilton must thank his former teammate for being fifth and chasing Perez. Bottas went to the side and the two Mercedes managed to get through.

Amazing races between the Silver Arrows teammates too and they are changing positions nonstop, Russell now back in front of Lewis.

Up front, Verstappen’s position is terrible and Leclerc’s Ferrari, in second, is close to regaining the lead.

06:52 WE’RE BACK IN THE RACE – VERSTAPPEN LEADS

A collision once we restart, but it will not affect races. Magnussen and Stroll made contact.

A real test drive under pressure for the top four now. Sainz is running wide and is giving Perez a very healthy opportunity to take third and last place on the podium. Great fight here.

Ricciardo fans, it doesn’t look like it’s his day. He’s back in 13th. Another weekend to forget. I suppose technically he did better than his teammate – so that’s something.

Confirmation that Gasly is out of the race, leading to three retirements (NORRIS, ZHOU)

6:37 CRASH AND YELLOW FLAGS

The virtual safety car and Lando Norris are OUT of the race after a dramatic collision with Gasly at Turn 8. He is out of the car and appears to be doing fine. But his race is over.

The collision appears to have caused problems for Gasly’s car as well.

Alonso has a five second penalty for the incident below.

6:36 AM CONTACT BETWEEN CARS

Alonso again at the center of some contact. it wasn’t the Spaniard’s singing, it was Gasly’s and the latter came out much worse. He dropped from 8th to 11th and the stewards are looking into that.

Up front, Verstappen extended his lead to seven seconds over Leclerc, Sainz third and Perez seems to have solved his problems.

Russell is holding fifth and has delayed his second pit in hopes of a VSC coming out.

06:27 AM HALFWAY VERSTAPPEN LEADS

Anyone more genuinely stunned that we’ve only had a retirement and not even a sniff of a safety car?

I dare say the race has been a little underwhelming up until this point.

Some great moments – Verstappen’s move on Leclerc and Vettel is producing some vintage moves in the back. Also, it’s not the best of races so far.

Rain gods, do what you want.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?

Sergio Perez is in trouble, his car was four seconds slower than the drivers in front and he is furious over the radio.

“I’m losing power man, how can you say there’s nothing wrong? What the hell is happening?”

TEAM RESPONSE: “Fault 5-0 fails, power unit looks good from here.”

If the problem is resolved, it cost him dearly, he was one second behind Sainz and the gap is now six seconds.

06:20 DISASTER ON THE RETURN – Return 30/57

Both Kevin Magnussen and Lando Norris are having their races ruined by the Aston Martins.

Vettel and Stroll are both on a long strategy, but Haas and McLaren really timed their pit stops poorly and are now both stuck behind the AMs and unable to find a way.

This means there is a genuine chance that Ricciardo could claim a better result than his British teammate for the first time in 9 races and what day to do so, Ricciardo today equals Mark Webber for the most laps by an Australian driver. .

06:14 VERSTAPPEN GETS UP, LECLERC groans Lap 27/57

The message no engineer wants to hear “the car is so hard to drive”

That’s Leclerc for his team and not helpful.

Ironically, he said that and set the race’s fast lap.

With Ferrari leading and Verstappen coming to a halt, Sainz leads the race for a few laps before being called up.

The top four with hard tires.

06:05 RED BULL IN TROUBLE (Lap 22) VERSTAPPEN GETS UP

Sergio Perez is in trouble, his car was four seconds slower than the drivers in front and he is furious over the radio.

“I’m losing power man, how can you say there’s nothing wrong? What the hell is happening?”

TEAM RESPONSE: “Fault 5-0 fails, power unit looks good from here.”

If the problem is resolved, it cost him dearly, he was one second behind Sainz and the gap is now six seconds.

06:00 ALPINE NIGHTMARE – VERSTAPPEN LEADS

A really bad pit stop for Alonso and the pit crew’s body language said it all, a long time ago and the Spaniard dropped to 12th.

Ricciardo – thanks in part to a few other pit stops – is in the points and 9th.

Further on, Verstappen is running away with the lead at the moment, 3.4 seconds off leclerc in second and his teammate Sainz is third, but he needs to keep an eye out because the second Red Bull is right behind him.

Russell made a surprising comeback. It only took 18 laps for his typres to warm up, but he is in 6th. he was 15 not long ago!

We need a safety car to spice this up.

05:47 RETIREMENT + NEW LEADER

Guanyu Zhou’s race is over, the Alfa Romeo pitted on lap 7. He has had a pretty miserable career so far.

Up front, damage to Lecler’s right front tire and Verstappen is closing in to make a move AND HE DOES IT!

Red Bull takes the lead thanks to DRS on lap 9 and the crowd went wild.

05:45 HAM QUESTIONS – LECLERC LEADS

On the first lap Hamilton said on the radio that he felt contact from behind – Alonso – and came back with the same problems five laps later. His team insists there is no damage to the car.

Not detracting from his racing ability from where I’m sitting, Hamilton is now in 6th and his former teammate Bottas is next in line for him to take.

Further back, Ricciardo dropped two places to 13th.

05:33 WE ARE COMPETING – LECLERC LEADS

The Ferrari 1-2 is now a Ferrari sandwich with a Verstappen in the middle, a great start for Red Bull. Nightmarish start for Hamilton, who lost places – at least two. Miraculously, all the cars made it through the first lap – I’m not going to lie, I thought we would have lost at least two.

Mercedes is not enjoying this so far, HAM in 8th (says Alonso hit him) and RUSS in 15th. Ricciardo has gained three positions, he is 11th.

05:20 WHY IS ASTON MARTIN IN THE PITS?

In an attempt to avoid a penalty for both drivers, the AMs are starting from the pits and this is due to a fuel issue. Their fuel is too COLD! So this is the fix – of sorts. Shame on both drivers who had decent positions, but it’s a win for Ricciardo, who moves up two places.
