In the final part of the NextGen International project, with support from our charity partner Hivos, indigenous youth living in Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest write about how they faced off against energy and oil giants who want to destroy the jungle for profit.
Student and activist Alexis shares his account of how he mobilized a major youth campaign that stopped a hydroelectric company from installing a dam on a sacred river.
And Gabriela Garces tells a success story of how the people triumphed and prevented the opening of a major oil exploration project in a vital Amazonian river.
The Mirror worked with the charity Hivos on these stories, which they supported through the All Eyes on the Amazon project. To learn more, visit www.aleyesontheamazon.org
