Delhi governor suspends key adviser in Kejriwal’s office

Delhi Deputy Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Wednesday ordered the suspension of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Deputy Cabinet Secretary and two subdivision magistrates (SDMs) on corruption charges.

Prakash Chandra Thakur posted as deputy secretary in the cabinet of Chief Minister Vasant Vihar SDM Harshit Jain and Vivek Vihar SDM Devender Sharma was suspended and disciplinary proceedings were ordered against them, according to an official statement.

The deputy governor also suspended two assistant engineers from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Monday after finding lapses in the construction of EWS apartments at Kalkaji Extension.

Last week, LG chaired a law and order review meeting in the national capital, where he was briefed on the current law and order landscape, crime data analysis, preventive measures, major challenges, reforms or initiatives undertaken and their impact by the Delhi Police Commissioner.

The Lieutenant Governor appreciated the measures taken by the Delhi Police, especially the separation of law and order from the investigation and integration of PCR at the police station level, initiatives for women’s safety, skills training through YUVA etc.

He emphasized ensuring a timely and proper investigation of cases, with a special focus on gathering scientific evidence, thereby increasing the conviction rate and thus reinforcing the deterrent effect of the law.

In emphasizing the importance of public disclosure and community policing, the lieutenant governor emphasized public hearings in localities to facilitate redress of public grievances.

The lieutenant governor also emphasized regular training of police personnel to improve their social skills. He placed special emphasis on improving welfare measures for police personnel, including resolving outstanding pension and gratuity issues.

Saxena also advised strengthening the Delhi Police Housing Corporation to increase police staff satisfaction with housing facilities.
