Cochrane RCMP investigates possible child abduction

The Cochrane RCMP is investigating a possible kidnapping of children at Willows Playground on the south side of the community.

Police received the tip at 4:17 pm on Thursday, when a young man told parents he saw a child being picked up off the sidewalk and placed in the back seat of a newer model, the dark blue Jeep Cherokee. The youth’s parents contacted the RCMP.

“We were told that a child was placed in a vehicle. That is what we are investigating,” said media relations officer Cpl. Curtis Peters. “It’s possible it was the father or something.”

The child is described as being around 10 years old and dressed in blue. The driver is described as a male, clean-shaven and wearing a CAT cap with yellow lettering.

Investigators are combing the area for witnesses and video, asking anyone with dashboard camera video or home security camera footage of the Willow Green and Willow Way area between 3:30pm and 4:30pm to contact the Cochrane RCMP. at 403-851-8000. They are also asking that if anyone has information that this was a misunderstanding to call the police.

Thursday’s report follows a string of kidnapping attempts in the two weeks, including a man who tried to lure an 11-year-old girl with the promise of ice cream in Cochrane, a young girl who escaped after being kidnapped on her way to school. in Strathmore, and a second incident in Cochrane involving two boys who reported that a man tried to lure them into a van.
